The 1,170m-long (3,840ft) bridge opened on 8 April 1994. The Fourth ThaiLao Friendship Bridge opened to traffic on 11 December 2013. Cruise down the Mekong from Houi Xai in northern Laos to the World Heritage city of Luang Prabang in comfort and safety, departs every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, minimum required. The Chinese and Thai governments agreed to build the bridge and share the estimated US$33 million cost.
